Airlines in India are using every opportunity to market themselves and the latest is celebration of International Women’s day today.
Vistara, the TATA-SIA Joint Venture announced the launch of Vistara Woman Flyer service yesterday. The service is aimed at solo woman travellers. As part of this service, Baggage and Transport assistance will be offered free of charge on arrival for solo women travellers along with assignment of seats as per their preference.
The airline will deploy staff at baggage claim area holding “#VistaraWomanFlyer” placards to assist solo woman travellers with their luggage and booking of airport authorized taxis along with escorting up to the taxi stand upon request. This service could be of much help at airports other than the major metros where the airline operates since the smaller cities do not have clearly demarcated taxi pick-up areas or zones. This will also be helpful for the late night and red-eye flights of the airline.
Low Cost Carrier Spicejet is running a social media campaign encouraging people to break the stereotype created for women. Today, Spicejet will offer complimentary hot beverages and cookies to all women passengers on all its Boeing flights and free upgrade to SpiceMax for its solo woman passengers, the later subject to availability.
Spicejet announced reserving the 4th row for solo woman passengers effective 8thMarch 2017. This will be available across Boeing and Q400 fleet of the airline. The airline has decided to assign window seats to males while reserving the aisle and middle seats to women on first come first serve basis in cases where the flights are full.
While Spicejet has decided to offer aisle and middle seats to solo woman travellers, Vistara will ensure only window or aisle seats to solo women travellers at check-in. Pre-Selection of seats at the time of booking and web check-in continues as is for Vistara. National Carrier Air India had started reserving the third row for solo woman travellers from mid-January of this year.
Vistara will operate the inaugural Mumbai – Amritsar flight with all women crew being led by Capt. Latha Viswanathan and First Officer Shalmalee Joshi, the airline said in its press release. The airline launched services to Amritsar on 1st March with a flight from its hub New Delhi. (Vistara to launch Amritsar & Leh)
Air India flew multiple all women crew flights across the world between 26thFebruary and today. This set a world record for longest distance covered by an all women crew when Air India flight on Delhi San Francisco. Captains Sunita Narula, Kshamta Bajpai, Indira Singh and Gunjan Aggarwal operated the flight.
Market leader IndiGo announced tie up with “Poorna” – an upcoming film Produced & Directed by Rahul Bose. The film is about an Adivasi girl from Telangana who became the youngest girl in history to climb Mount Everest in 2014 at the age of 13. Jet Airways will operate a few domestic flights with all woman crew
