Mumbai Head quartered and Wadia group owned Low Cost Carrier – Go Air, has appointed Wolfgang Prock Shauer as its CEO. He will join his duties in Mumbai immediately. This news was broken by few journalists today on social media. By far this is the most high profile executive to join Go Air, which till recently was the smallest airline in India. The airline operates a fleet of 19 A320 aircraft and has 72 A320 NEO on order whose delivery will start from 2016.
Wolfgang Prock Shauer was last working with Air Berlin – an Etihad partner airline as Chief Strategy & Planning Officer and part of Management board from January 2013 till February 2015.
Go Air – recently in news for its pilot shortage should see a quantum leap in performance under Mr.Prock Shauer who has worked in India with Jet Airways from 2003 to 2009 and saw the growth of the airline from 40 aircraft to over 110. He also was at the helm when the airline went public and when it started international operations. This rich experience will be very helpful for Go Air which will see rapid growth, has plans of listing and starting international operations soon.
By far, this is the best move that the Wadia group has initiated for its airline business which started operations in November 2005, but has had miniscule growth and market share compared to rival IndiGo which started during the same time.
Mr. Prock Shauer has worked with Austrian Airlines with responsibilities of Network Planning, Strategic Planning and alliances. He took over as CEO of BMI in 2009 and worked with BMI till 2012, before shifting to Air Berlin.
